The Hunter Pets is a companion to the Hunter as they travel through Outland and Azeroth in World of Warcraft. A Hunter's pet acts as a tank when fighting in small groups or solo allowing the Hunter or Hnters to maintain a range that she, he or they require in order to come out best in combat. When not tanking Hunter Pets can be used to cause damage in conjunction with the Hunter's own stings and shots.
The Hunter will need to use his or her (Tame Beast) skill on a valid beast from a
select family, who is exactly their level or lower, to obtain it as a pet. At the
start of the taming process, the Hunter's armor is decreased by 100% and they are
not able to perform any other actions, If they do, the attempt at taming will fail.
The entire taming process only takes 20 seconds and it does not increase with every
hit, but note, it can be interrupted. In Patch 3.0.2, Beastmaster Hunters gained
the exciting ability to tame additional rare pet types -
World of Warcraft -
Pets can eat up to 6 different types of food: these are cheese, fish, fruit, meat, bread and fungus. However, some pets, such as wolves, will only eat meat. Boars and bears can eat any of the 6 food types. It is always easier to feed pets that eat bread, meat and fish. This is because mobs will often drop meat, bread can be conjured by a Mage and fish can be caught.
Feeding pets is really important. The happier that a pet is, the more damage it can cause / deal
Hunter Pets
The best strategy is for a Hunter to send their pet in from a distance and allow it to get aggro on a mob before he or she follows in and opens fire. And don’t forget it is not cruel to keep the mob on the pet allowing you to use the full power of your ranged weapon to take down your target.
A great little trick is to use your pet to pull mobs that are out of range towards you. You can then use Attack to send your pet in and as soon as it attracts the attention of the mob you can then use Follow to call your pet back. Your pet will then start running towards you and the mob will of course follow. Once the mob is within your range, you can use Attack once again. Your pet will turn around and attack the mob and you can now use your ranged weapon on it. This pull will work over a fairly long distance and it will even work around corners as long as you can get a mob targeted.
Hunter Pets are an invaluable part of your World of Warcraft arsenal
And did you know this little bit of information ?
It is possible to take on 2 mobs at once and have the pet fight one mob while the Hunter attacks another one. Important Note: the Hunter will not gain loot or gain experience from a mob that the pet kills on its own. This is a deliberate decision by Blizzard and it is not a bug. If you intend on taking on multiple mobs and having your pet kill one or more of them while you take on the others, it is always best to try and get at least one shot or a hit on each of the mobs and then allow your pet to do the rest of the work on them.
And remember, even in World of Warcraft, Hunter Pets are not just for Christmas !.
